Welcome GCSA Coaches!

We’re thrilled to have you on board! Volunteering as a coach is an incredibly rewarding experience, and your role has a lasting impact on the development of our youth athletes.

At GCSA, we’re committed to supporting our volunteer coaches by providing valuable resources to help you succeed. We understand that every coach has their own style, and each team may require different approaches or training plans. Please feel free to use these resources as a guide, but don’t hesitate to adapt and adjust as needed to create the best learning experience for the kids.

Training Requirements
Once you’ve registered, you’ll need to complete the required trainings on GotSport: Safe Sport Training and Heads Up Concussion Training. These trainings will equip you with essential knowledge to create a safe and positive environment for your players. After completing these required trainings, we encourage you to continue your coaching education through the links below or by exploring additional trainings, books, and other resources to further enhance your skills.

Coach / Team Volunteer Responsibilities

Coach Expectations

At GCSA, we believe our coaches are the heart of the player experience. We strive to empower you with the flexibility to coach in a way that works for your team while providing clear expectations to support a positive and consistent environment across the league.

What We Expect From Our Coaches:

  • Plan with Purpose: Prepare engaging practices in advance that match your players’ developmental needs and skill levels.
  • Communicate Often: Keep an open line of communication with your coaching group, GCSA staff, and especially parents. Notify families early about practice/game schedules and any changes.
  • Foster Team Participation: Ensure all players participate in at least half of every game (unless they opt out). Create an inclusive, supportive environment where every child feels valued.
  • Support Key Events:
    • Promote and participate in the league fundraiser, collecting orders and payments.
    • Coordinate with families for Picture Day—ensure players arrive on time and ready.
    • Work with other coaches to schedule fairly around Fall Breaks and holiday conflicts.
  • Practice Guidelines:
    • Ages 3–5: ~1 practice per week
    • Ages 6–11: ~2 practices per week

Coach / Team Manager Responsibilities

Whether handled by a team manager or the coach directly, these responsibilities help ensure each team runs smoothly and stays informed throughout the season:

  • Distribute and collect fundraiser forms and orders
  • Hand out team jerseys to players
  • Ensure the team is on time and ready for Picture Day
(Good news: printed photos will now be mailed directly to families—no need to hand them out!)
  • Help coordinate concession volunteers from your team if needed
(Just occasional reminders or helping fill in a spot—minimal time commitment)
  • Assist with player benches:
    • Set them out if you’re the first game on your field
    • Put them away if you’re the last game of the day

These small tasks go a long way in creating a smooth and positive experience for everyone. If you have a team manager to help—great! If not, we’re here to support you however we can.
